Not just announce speeches!
A Toastmaster has many skills to help him deal with the many situations that may arise during your special day. Will your wedding co-ordinator be as accommodating? Here's a list of the many things I do:-
- Check details (flowers, seating, etc) prior to church or civil ceremony
- Greet guests on arrival
- Help with elderly, wheelchairs, etc
- Welcome bridegroom and family
- Fix buttonholes for Bridegroom, best man ushers and corsage for groom’s mum
- Escort Bride’s mother to front of Church/Civil Ceremony
- Ensure guests are in ceremony room/church before arrival of bride
- Greet bride and escort
- Carry dress /assist Bride
- Arrange dress at back of ceremony before going in
- Get the bride and get her to smile before going in for the ceremony
- Help the bride after the service, getting into car, holding champagne glasses, etc.
- Assist at reception with dress
- Make sure table plan is viewable during photographs
- Find guests for photographer (if required).
- Take any cards and presents to nominated place
- Check on progress for food, and is on time
- Round up guests for line up
- Announce guests (if required) first names only
- Announce entrance of bride and groom
- Escort them in
- Grace (if required)
- Pass guests book around
- Ensure everyone has knives, forks, etc, and cake knife is present
- Announce speeches will be in 10/15 minutes, guests can go for a comfort break or cigarette
- Announce cake cutting
- Announce father, bridegroom, and best mans speeches
- Announce couple leaving breakfast
- Announce first dance
These are just some of the jobs that go unseen, plus a holdall of everything you may ever need is at hand for those unplanned emergencies including a wheelchair!
Will your wedding venue co-ordinator and staff:-
- Greet ALL guests on arrival
- Help with elderly guests and any guests in wheelchairs
- Welcome the Bridegroom, best man and ushers
- Help fix button holes to Bridegroom, best man, ushers, and family guests
- Escort Bride’s mother to her seat
- Carry Bride’s dress or assist in getting ready to go into the ceremony
- Get the Bride to smile before going in
- Assist the Bride after the ceremony with dress, getting into a car, etc
- Ensure the Bride is treated like royalty with any whim catered for
- Make sure the table plan is available to view during the photograph session
- Find guests for the photographer
- Collect any greeting cards and presents to a nominated place
- Round up guests for line up
- Announce guests by name to formal line up
- Announce correctly the entrance of the Bride and Bridegroom
- Escort them into the breakfast room
- Say grace (if required)
- Ensure the guest book is passed around the guests for signing
- Announce 10 minutes before that the speeches are due to start, so guests can have a cigarette or comfort break and not disrupt the speakers.
- Announce the cake cutting with three special wishes
- Introduce correctly the Bride’s father, Bridegroom, and Best man with the appropriate toasts
- Announce the end of the wedding breakfast
- Have a bag of everything you can think off available in case of emergency(glue, plasters, sewing cotton, combs, etc, toothbrushes )
With my experience of 24 years of photographing weddings, I know that they do not. That is why you need a toastmaster to do this list and much more.
It’s the work you do not see that makes the difference.
